AJ Viola
AJ Viola is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose mulitimedia work and writings support positive social change. She brings our musicians’ shows to life by projecting vivid imagery derived from a body of original photographs, carrying these concepts into her CD cover art designs.
Like all Proletariat Productions artists, AJ’s socially conscious actions extend beyond making art. She has fought to save a local supermarket from replacement by a chain store, volunteered extensively with the Chicago Abused Women Coalition and helped to form the Chicago Teaching Artist Collective (CTAC).
She has spoken about creative expression as a means to promote political goals, as well as its healing benefits, on CAN-TV & WZRD-radio shows, IndyMedia-TV, our own United Front Music Journal PodCast, and as an Art of Movement Making forum panelist.
AJ is a graduate student pursuing an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts & Media at Columbia College Chicago. She teaches visual art and creative writing to elementary school students, currently re-using product packaging to create art portfolios that emphasize the value of the creation process.
